For the first 13 months of his life, Buddy likely lived with a family. He learned some leash manners, but no one gave him real structure or leadership. Without boundaries or a calm hand to guide him, Buddy became overwhelmed — and was eventually abandoned.
He landed in the Bell County animal shelter, where life was harsh. Street survival had taught him one thing: fight or flight. Because of this fear-driven behavior, Buddy was marked for euthanasia.
But Buddy's story didn’t end there.
A rescue group stepped in and saved him. He spent the next four years in a shelter with little stimulation or exercise — emotionally stuck as that same confused 13-month-old pup. It wasn’t until he arrived at a dog rehabilitation center that Buddy finally began to heal.
And now? He’s thriving.
Buddy has learned how to be around other balanced dogs — those who aren’t dominant or anxious. He’s made incredible progress with trust and obedience. He loves people and has never shown aggression toward a human. When unsure, Buddy doesn’t fight — he simply chooses space. With a calm, confident person he respects, he will happily follow instructions and respond to hand signals — both on leash and even off leash in a calm backyard setting.
What Buddy truly needs is a leader — someone calm, consistent, and assertive without being harsh. Baby talk and chaotic energy confuse him. What works? Clear direction, structure, and daily exercise (he enjoys a good 1.5-mile walk, a game of fetch, or running alongside a golf cart!).
Buddy isn’t looking for someone to fix him. He’s looking for someone to believe in him. Someone he can bond with, trust, and follow with loyalty and heart.
If you're the kind of person a dog can look up to…
Buddy is ready to follow you anywhere.
